Halloween Week! I know What You Did Last Summer- Book Review

To get into the spirit of Halloween, I'm going to review I Know What You Did Last Summer by Lois Duncan. I read it about 2 years ago but quickly skim-read it again to refresh my memory.

You might have seen the film, I haven't, but if it is good let me know! It may be good for a horror film to watch on Halloween...The story is about four American teenagers who did something that they thought they had got away with. Until- a year later- a short, anonymous note arrives, claiming 'I know what you did last summer'. This starts them to panic again and remember, unwillingly, what did happen last summer. Soon, they realise that unless they can outsmart the note sender, someone- or more- will die.

I think this is more of a thriller but I guess that counts! I really wanted to do something for Halloween Week, but I haven't read too many horror stories, something I would like to change. If you have any suggestions, let me know please! Personally, I really enjoyed this book, and I didn't feel that it gave away too many clues, which I think is a good thing. At the end of the story, I was shocked by the outcome but in a way that was good because I could fit together how that outcome would work out and wasn't disappointed. Sometimes, I find that in some cases, we are given an ending that is not as exciting or amazing as the rest of the book has been, but this was not the case. I don't know is this would still be the case now as I'm older, but I don't think 2 or 3 years changes too much. Also the characters were convincing teenagers and they explained enough that I felt like I knew the characters relatively well.

As far as being scary goes, it's less scary, more creepy. Creepy because you don't know who is sending the notes but also intriguing because, naturally, you want to find out. I couldn't stop reading because I just wanted to know who this anonymous person was, and it is a short book anyway, so pretty much all of the book is action-y or exciting. I would recommend this book to people who like books that keep them guessing and probably from ages 12-16.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/0440228441/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used As this is quite an old book, the prices range depending on seller. I have linked the amazon page. If you get it used, it is a lot cheaper.
You can also get the film here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Know-What-You-Last-Summer/dp/B00004D35Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1383082015&sr=8-1&keywords=i+know+what+you+did+last+summer for £8.95, but I know you could get it cheaper used.

Other books by Lois Duncan include:

  •  Stranger With My Face- (I have read this and enjoyed it a lot!)
  • Don't look behind you
  • Killing Mr. Griffin
  • Locked in time.
There is a sequel to the film too- I Still Know What You Did Last Summer

I know this review was pretty bad compared to the rest of the Halloween Week posts that I've seen people do, but the truth is, I didn't really know how to make it good. I am really trying to learn, so hopefully the next themed post will be 100 times better. Sorry if this bored you haha! I would love any tips or ideas and any feedback would be great. :)

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
